I heard Mambo Gallego at a dance social recently and was blown away. I asked the DJ waht song he had played. Mambo Gallego by Tito Puente, I looked it up on-line and saw the "adult swim remix". Again I was blown away. I wanted to add a little NYR Soul to both versions. This is what you get.

This is my homage to the musicians and dancers who have kept Mambo alive. Inspiration was not hard mambo has been around since the 1930's and when the first cuban musicians hit New York with their Afro-Cuban jazz and met up with some of the great New York Jazz musicians the fusion created mambo madness until the 50's when Cuba was shut out of american culture but the influence still there. Then rock and roll and R&B influenced a whole new generation of latinos and boogaloo and eventually salsa were born. These were the sounds of the artist's that laid down groundwork for latino culture in america. Remember October is Latino heritage month. Peace!

This is a test, just a test to see if anyone remembers the rollerskating phase that swept New York from 81 to 85. People were skating in Roller rinks or in the streets with their walkmans on. There was alot of great music made in those times for rollerskating. Disco was still king at that time although rock and hip-hop were shaking the underground. This episode is mostly on the dance music side. Maybe a part 2 will include more rock and rap. Let me know if I missed a song you liked and I will try to include it next time. Peace!

"El Cantante" is synonymous with salsa. The movie was a nice tribute but didn't show how much his music connected with his fans and his peers. He was highly respected because of the songs he chose to sing and the soulful way he sang them. This tribute is mostly on the dance tip. I didn't get into his boleros or romantic songs much even though he pulled it off with ease. I could've continued playing his music for days since he put out alot of great music but I tried to condense it therefore some songs were left out. Maybe a part 2. is down the road. Anyway I enjoyed taking the trip I hope you do too.

A little something for the salsa lovers. I was playing around with mixing hip-hop to spice up some of the old tunes but then I just started finding one smoking salsa record after another. No need to enhance anything just straight salsa dura. I finally managed to fit in some Cha-Cha at the end of this mix. Download and burn on to a cd. Please share with your friends. The more people who hear it the better. Gracias!

Lucky Episode 13 is going way back, back into the disco days. When people were sweating to the sounds of Barry White, Teena Marie, Teddy Pendergrass. The heavy hitters. I included Michael Jackson in the beginning and end of this mix to pay homage. This mash-up includes some funky tunes. You will grow an afro after hearing this mix. Guaranteed! Send to a friend and join the mail list. We're taking it back.
